His followers must do what they can to attract his attention - he is always hungry and wants human blood - only that kind of prayer its ok for him. Conan belived in most popular Cymerian god - Crom. This god is very specific - you can't pray him- becouse he is strong god so his follower must be strong - and prayers are for weak. He can be attracted by brave deeds. Conan was favorite warrior of Crom becouse of his power, bravery and iron will. Crom is god for warriors but other from Hybornian pantheon god - Mitra is god of knowledge, order and justice. This god is most popular in Hybornian world, his rules of faith are simple and universal - every follower must have sense of justice and his life must be full of good deeds. Only those who with pure and ascetic life can be Mitra's favorite.
